This year is the 20th anniversary of the installation of Dunblane Cathedral’s Dutch “Flentrop” organ. The Arts Guild would like to mark the occasion with a special recital and Chris Bragg is uniquely placed to give it, as his organ studies also link Dunblane and the Netherlands.

Born in Stirling, Chris was raised and educated in Dunblane, beginning organ lessons with the Cathedral’s organist, Matthew Beetschen, at the age of 12 and graduating to organ scholar. He continued his organ studies with George McPhee and Michael Harris at the RSAMD and then his interest in historic organs took him to the Netherlands for further study. Chris has been a regular recitalist at Dunblane’s summer season, but has not yet given a recital here with violinist Emma Jones.

Emma was born in St.Helens and studied at the RSAMD with Kyra Humphreys before also going to the Netherlands for further study. She now works on a freelance basis.

Their Dunblane concert derives from the 17th century North German tradition of combining a solo instrument with the church organ, and the programme will include some of the repertoire written and performed by Schop and Scheidemann in St.Catherine’s Hamburg. There will also be the opportunity to hear some Buxtehude and Bach, which are so well suited to the Flentrop organ.
