Niall Brown and Isabelle Trüb have been performing together for more than 20 years to critical acclaim in Europe, Australia and South America. They have given live radio broadcasts in Switzerland and Australia and appeared at festivals in many more countries. Their repertoire covers all periods of composition from baroque to present day, and they have recorded several cds, including works of Brahms and Fauré as well as contemporary music.
Born in Aberdeen, Niall began the cello aged 6. Shortly afterwards his talent was recognized by Yehudi Menuhin, who invited him to join his school near London under the guidance of distinguished cellists Maurice Gendron and William Pleeth. He completed his studies with Ralph Kirshbaum and Radu Aldulescu, and his passion for chamber music enabled him to perform internationally alongside such artists as Yehudi Menuhin, Janos Starker, Bruno Giuranna, Alberto Lysy, Stephen Kovacevitch, Michel Dalberto and Edith Fischer among others. For a period of 8 years, Niall was the cellist of the prestigious Australian String Quartet, performing all over Australia, Asia and Europe. Currently he is Co- Principal cellist of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, guest professor at the International Menuhin Music Academy for cello and chamber music, is in demand for masterclasses and holds an annual summer course as part of the Semaine Internationale de Piano in Switzerland. He is also Artistic Director and founder of the Automne Musical d’Ollon in Switzerland. Niall remains committed to his passion for chamber music, performing regularly as cellist of the Dohnanyi Quartet (Switzerland) and with the Trüb-Brown Duo throughout Europe.
Isabelle was born in Switzerland and studied piano and theory at the Vevey music conservatory and then privately. A Swiss scholarship enabled her to continue her musical studies in Bloomington, Indiana, USA, where her teachers were Alfonso Montecino, Shigeo Neriki and Gyorgy Sebok. While a student at Bloomington, Isabelle was much in demand as a chamber musician and as an accompanist for the classes of Joseph Gingold, Franco Gulli (violin), Fritz Maag, Gary Hoffman, and Janos Starker (‘cello), among many others. On her return to Switzerland, Isabelle worked as pianist for the International Menuhin Music Academy and played numerous concerts with its director Alberto Lysy (violin) and other string players, all over Europe. At the same time, she started to accompany for international masterclasses with such artists as Janos Starker, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Bruno Giuranna, Marçal Cervera. A period teaching piano and chamber music at the École Sociale de Musique in Lausanne was followed by work in Australia as piano teacher at the University of Adelaide and various schools, as an AMEB examiner and as a frequently-broadcast chamber musician. Since moving back to Europe, Isabelle has continued with her musical activities, which include teaching, accompanying at the Conservatoire of Luxembourg , writing reviews for ‘D’Luxemburger Wort’ and playing chamber music, notably with her husband Niall in the Trüb-Brown Duo.
