Rossano Sportiello is a classically trained, award-winning jazz pianist, born in Italy and touring Europe with the renowned ‘Milan Jazz Gang’ from the age of 18. He is now settled in New York but travels widely giving workshops, masterclasses and lectures, and playing at international festivals. Our Dunblane concert is one of a number on a return tour of Scotland, and in the true spirit of improvisation, Rossano will decide on the programme when he sees the venue – and the audience! Anything is possible and all styles are ‘in the mix’. He is as likely to choose Chopin as Cole Porter, and under his fingers, classical and jazz styles combine naturally and harmoniously. His improvisations seem to flow seamlessly and his formidable technique allows him tremendous scope for virtuosity or simplicity.
